We know why the land is important to you. We know the importance of a dream. In the 1880s my family became landowners thanks to the Homestead Act. They had a dream that lasted 4 generations. I grew up as a part of that dream, and moved away and went down a different road. Decades later James Taylor sang my tune, "Where I'm from is where I'm going."
Our Lands are at a critical point. In the next years, nearly 40% (371 million acres) of America's farm and ranch land is in transition.
This is the acreage owned by retiring landowners over 65 years old.
Research tells us only 29% have succession plans.
At the same time access to land is the biggest problem for new and beginning farmers. Research tells us 32.2% of these new producers are 55 or older and that 40.7% are women.
So there's our mission: Connecting landowners with new and expanding farmers and ranchers. Creating partnerships that might result in new revenue for the landowner, finding a successor, and creating new opportunities with access to land.
Three of us created GeoRanch. A COO/Realtor, a GIS Director, a Ranch Consulting Director.
